Yahoo is closing in May

Yahoo Answers will close on May 4 this year.  Internet users have been using the website since 2005.  It is one of the longest running Q&A platforms in the internet world.

Yahoo is currently owned by Verizon Media.  Technology blog Engadget reports that Yahoo recently detailed how the whole process will be completed.

The service will start closing on April 20.  The website will not take any new submissions from that time.  Users will have until June 30 to download an archive of their content, even after the May 4 deadline.

After closing, if you go to Yahoo Answers page, you will be taken directly to Yahoo homepage.  Yahoo is shutting down the service mainly due to the decrease in users.

"At one time, Yahoo Answers was an important part of Yahoo's products and services, but its popularity has waned as the needs of our members have changed over time," the company said in a statement.

"That's why we want to move assets away from Yahoo Answers and focus on services that can serve members and deliver the premium reliable content that Yahoo has promised."  - Added Yahoo.

There are also reasons behind the decline in Yahoo Answers users.  Rival service Google has its own part in Q&A.  For most queries, the search engine answers with a widget.  Users no longer need to visit any additional websites for this purpose.

Engadget noted that the quality of the post has also declined significantly in recent years.  There were more online trolls on the site.
