The Android version of Google Maps has returned to Compass Widget

Compass Widget was missing from the Android version of Google Maps for a long time.  Google removed the feature in early 2019.  They recently brought the widget back to Maps.  The company has also confirmed this.

Google has brought back the Compass widget because of "strong interest" from users, according to a report in the Android News site Android Police, citing Google's support post.

Technology blog Engadget comments that the ability to move mountains, either for better or for worse, often falls into the hands of the online community - which has turned large corporations around.

To get the Compass widget again, you need to download the latest Maps version 10.62.  The widget will appear when users browse the map for a location.

Engadget noted that even though the feature was removed on Android, it was fine on iOS.  As a result, iPhone and iPad users have used the compass, while Android users have been deprived the whole time.
